Kourouta, one of Ilia’s most crowded beaches, situated at a distance of 20km from Pyrgos and 6km away from the prefecture’s second largest city of Amaliada, is among the most popular in the Peloponnese.
In a southwest orientation and being vast, over 5km in length, it is in fact an extension of an endless and impressive coastline that starts in the north from the Thines of Vartholomio, to end in the south at Agia Marina, Douneika.
With an average width of 25m, the beach is renowned for its golden sand. Fairly shallow, easily accessible and fairly serviced, with amenities and infrastructure that make it a pole of attraction, and also known as “Mykonos of mainland Greece”, Kourouta lies directly across the island of Zakynthos - it can be seen clearly, weather permitting. The location offers bathers fantastic Instagram sunsets.
As it boasts a great number of catering, leisure and water sports businesses, and is also equipped with wooden walkways and lifeguards, the beach is regarded as one of Greece’s most developed and cherished tourist destinations.
