Being of an exceptional identity, Voustri used to be a village full of life, situated 14km northwest of the town of Katuna. Nestled in the Akarnanian mountains, at an altitude of 600m, it is surrounded by forests of walnut trees. As locals used to be involved in rich livestock farming, a prevailing theory is that its name comes from the combination of the words voutyro (butter) and tyri (cheese).
In the early 70s, the village was abandoned as a result of ground fragility, with inhabitants moving to a settlement in the nearby village of Tryfos.
Nowadays, although accessible and therefore visitable, it is a ghost settlement and a reminder of the good old days. Abandoned and left to the ravages of time, with scattered ruins of houses and wall cornerstones, the old village now features only the church of Agios Nikolaos, which has been repaired and is in good condition.
Voustri is a village full of memories, with its silent ruins generously offering a trip to another era; it seems as if it is eagerly waiting to come back to life and enjoy prosperous days.
