Aquatic Habitat of Aliki

A remarkable coastal ecosystem and an earthly paradise of tranquility, the Aliki wetland is located 2km northeast of the city of Aigio, at the Gyftissa cape, in the Gulf of Corinth.
This small coastal lagoon has a perimeter of more than 3km, a surface area of 44.5 acres and a maximum depth of half a meter, and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
Roughly of triangular shape, in winter it is fed by rainwater and in summer it almost dries up, while it is surrounded by reed beds and halophytic vegetation.
In its territory, between reeds and rushes and around open water surfaces and mudflats, it attracts migratory and aquatic birds and waterfowl, offering a hospitable place. Herons, ducks, swans and flamingos are just a few select members of its avifauna, while its fauna and flora are far from negligible. In fact, its environmental and ecological value is inversely proportional to its small size.
A tempting place for nature lovers but also for those who like to observe and record birds. An adjacent beach of the same name is quite popular, windless and crowded.
