The Gothic Church of Agia Sofia is the pride and the jewel of Andravida, as well as one of the most important monuments of Elis. It stands proud, reminding every visitor and resident of the area that Andravida was once the capital of the Principality of Achaea.
The church was built by the monastic order of the Dominicans. It was a three-aisled, wooden-roofed basilica, of which, today, only the chancel and the side chapels survive.
It is a very important monument for the study of Gothic architecture, and it is also worth mentioning that two impressive sculptures, now on display in the museum of the castle of Chlemoutsi, come from the area were the church stands. These are the marble tombstone of princess Anne Villehardouin and a capital bearing in relief the coat of arms of the princely couple Isabella of Villehardouin – Florent.
