Description

The railway bridge of Alfeios is a living monument of local history. It is located between Varvasaina and Salmoni, just before the village of Alfeiousa, on the banks of the river Alfeios. It is a metal bridge, which when it was built was considered one of the largest of its time.

The bridge, which measures more than 115 years of life, unites the two sides of the river, the province of Ilia and the province of Olympia, a fact that played a decisive role in the development of the wider area of Olympia, where isolation and abandonment prevailed for centuries.

Today, it is not used, but it is an attraction of unique importance, that no one can find something like that in the entire Peloponnese.
