Description

The Frankish Monastery of Panagia of Isova in the village of Trypiti, Elis is a relatively unknown, but rather important monument of the Frankish occupation, not only for Elis, but for Greece in general.

Its architecture reveals that it was built by western monks, possibly by the order of Cistercians. The church, though abandoned, is preserved in excellent condition and charms visitors with its exceptional beauty.

Its length exceeds 40m, while the remains of the monks’ cells north of the church are quite impressive. Some unique findings of the sculpted decoration can be seen in the museum inside the castle of Chlemoutsi.
