Description
The cave of Panagia Varkou, is hidden in an overgrown, wild vegetation area, on a rock, next to a magnificent waterfall, and with a view of huge plane trees, in the village of Kalidona, in the municipality of Zaharo.
According to tradition, in 1845, a shepherd found an icon of the Virgin Mary there. Later, the cave began to function as a small church, and it is solemnly celebrated every year on August 23.
