An oasis of green and a recreation area, the Grove of Patras is a peri-urban forest, a stone's throw from the city center and less than 2km from Georgiou Square.
Unfolding on the slopes of Mount Panahaiko and specifically on the Eschatovouni hill, the last hill of the mountain before it vanishes at the city limits, the Grove is overgrown mainly with pine trees and packed with trails - some visible and some concealed ones - suitable for touring and hiking.
This natural lung is ideal for walks as well as sports, enjoyed by families, runners, walkers and cyclists, since it generously offers tranquility, exercise and relaxation.
From its top one can enjoy a panoramic view of Patras, take a look at the Gulf of Patras and gaze at the mountains of Etoloakarnania.
On its outskirts, filled with history, visitors may admire important places and monuments, such as the famous Castle of Patras, and the city’s Roman and Medieval Aqueduct, which has emerged as a visitable archaeological park.
The Grove in reality is not a natural but an artificial forest, inspired and created by the forester Angelos Rigopoulos, planted at the beginning of the 20th century to grow and develop into an urban ornament.
